Sony has announced the budget-friendly Xperia L1 smartphone with 5.5″ HD Display & 2GB RAM

Sony announced a couple of new smartphones at the MWC earlier this year like the Xperia XZ Premium, etc. However, now the company has quietly announced a new budget-friendly smartphone called the Xperia L1. This definitely came as a surprise, since the company has not launched any budget-friendly smartphone in a while. On the specs side of things, this may not be as impressive, and that is obviously because it is a budget offering. However, it does run the latest version of Android i.e. the 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
Talking about the specs of this smartphone, it has a 5.5-inch 720p display which means it has a resolution of 1280×720 and it is an LCD panel. Internally, this smartphone is powered by a 1.4GHz MediaTek MT6737T which is a quad-core CPU, and alongside that, it has 2GB of RAM. It also has the Mali-T720 MP2 GPU for graphics processing. In terms of storage, this smartphone comes with 16GB of storage out of the box but in case if you need additional storage, then you can add more via a microSD card.
Sony smartphones are usually known for the camera optics since that is something that Sony always gives more importance to. However, this being a budget offering, comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera which is not the best one out there but still not bad by any means. On the front, there is a 5MP front-facing shooter for the selfies which is again not bad at all considering the segment. There is also a 2,620mAh battery which keeps the lights on in this smartphone and runs the show.
The connectivity options include a support for 4G LTEWi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX, NFC, A-GPS, GLONASS and a USB Type-C for charging and data syncing. As mentioned earlier, on the software side of things, it runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with Sony’s custom UI on top of it. Also, the fact that it has space for two SIM cards is a bonus. While the price tag of the device is unknown, it is expected to hit the streets next month in black, white and pink color options.
Now the only thing which remains to be seen is how affordable this smartphone actually is. With that said, let us know what do you think about this smartphone? Would you be interested in buying this if it is priced decently and if it ever makes it to India?
